10 Things You Should Know About Smoking In Lebanon

10 Things You Should Know About Smoking in Lebanon is an infographic I designed to support the new tobacco-control bill that has been submitted to the Lebanese Parliament. The new bill, which is backed by the Tobacco Free Initiative (TFI) and its partners both in the public and private sector, consists of the following, in conformity with the World Health Organization’s guidelines:

  • A total ban of smoking in public places
  • A total ban of advertising
  • Pictorials on 40% of the packaging

The infographic is copyleft, which means that you’re free to use it on your websites, blogs, Facebook pages or any online platform you’re using. If you’d like a hi-res version for print, please do let me know.

Lebanon gains over 700 million from tobacco per year. so don’t expect any campaign from the government soon. do the math.

Thanks for the support Mireille, M and Mirs. Your names all start with an M 🙂

Blah, one of the reasons this bill hasn’t passed yet is because there’s a lot of personal/business interests playing into it on the part of so many actors. True, the government is not going to launch any no-smoking campaigns any time soon. But that doesn’t mean we should give up on our right to breathe a clean, healthy and smoke-free air.

    Hi Joelle,

Good infograph, I am constantly on a campaign to stop ppl i know from smoking, i wish there were more smart anti-smoking ads around!

Just one thing thou, i’m just gonna play Devil’s advocate here (because i KNOW smokers will) you can’t say 3,500 ppl die annually from SMOKING, as smoking is not a fatal disease in itself…you’re liable to get less back-talk if you change it to ‘smoking-related diseases/health problems’ ..just so you avoid falling into a logical fallacy and give smokers that avoidance argument on a silver platter 🙂

sharing seems to be scaring in this case.
i tried to post to fb or twitter but there is a glitch in the matrix.
    im getting:
    “An Error Was Encountered
The short_link field must contain a valid URL.”
    as a message.

    great initiative.

    cheers.

  9. Joelle says:

Fligis, thank you so much for the support and thank you for pointing out the error. It has been fixed. Feel free to share the post at will.

Very interesting me thinks —> While puffing away on my tasty Gauloises. I would like to see Lebanon enact and enforce such laws; what a comical exercise it will prove to be.

To be fair, I would support regulation of smoking in public spaces only if the right of smokers to smoke themselves to death is acknowledged and respected.
